The single 3D building model ensures that all team members were working on the most current version of the design. Because of the size of the project, traditional casting slabs were not large enough to handle construction of the wall panels. The largest tilt-up wall panel W ith a height of 802 feet (224.5 meters), the 48-story Leadenhall Building will be architect Richard Rogers’ newest addition to the central London skyline and one of the tallest buildings in London. For Rogers and his ﬁrm, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the challenge was to design a structure that was both elegant and constructible within the tight constraints © Cityscape v The Wells Fargo project is one of the largest multistory tilt-up ofﬁce structures ever built measured 54 feet tall and weighed more than 65,000 pounds. Instead, casting beds were used for each building. These required close coordination and sequencing of construction operations. 3D visualizations derived from the 3D model helped LJB identify potential areas of conflict among the different construction sequences and design solutions to minimize those conflicts. Because the wall panels were so large, the cranes that hoisted the panels into place had a boom extension of 140 feet. The steel erector used two cranes in order to keep pace with the fabricator. The panels required so much bracing that the project team also created a detailed plan for its layout. LJB handled both the structural engineering and steel detailing services concurrently. That allowed the fabricator to order the steel package for the building before drawings were complete, which helped ensure that there was sufﬁcient steel available on site during panel fabrication. More than 1,350 tons of structural steel was erected in the course of the project. LJB met the challenges posed by the tight timetable for the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage complex. The structural design phase was compressed to three months, and there was a one-month overlap with construction. Ground was broken for the complex in March of 2006, and the foundations, ﬂoor slab, and exterior walls were completed within 90 days.
