Tech Trends Learning Paths Map Skill Development for Infrastructure Professionals New Bentley Institute online training roadmaps enable ﬁrms to become productive learning organizations entley, its software users, and its solutions portfolio have all grown exponentially over the years. The Bentley Institute has kept pace, introducing thousands of hours of content for classroom training, distance learning, and OnDemand eLearning to ﬁt the requirements and hectic schedules of infrastructure professionals. But with so much training available, users did not always know where to start or how to keep expanding their skills sets once they had mastered the basics. “Training helps organizations quickly increase productivity and proﬁtability, especially when the right learning is matched to each user in an organization,” said Peter Huftalen, vice president of Bentley Institute. “We have such an extensive library of training resources, our users need an effective tool to ﬁnd that right training, strategically plan for their professional development, and measure their progress.” B Enter learning paths Learning paths are online training roadmaps that display the recommended progression of accredited professional development for a given Bentley application, job role, or experience level. They are available at www.Bentley.com/learningpaths. “Users often say, ‘I’m brand new to MicroStation. Where do I begin?’ Or ‘I have some experience with InRoads site design, but I really need to master the application to be more effective. What do I do?’” said Huftalen. “While our content has been arranged so that you can ﬁnd courses by product or topic, once you get down into the actual alphabetical listings, it gets harder to know which courses are the best choices for the user’s level of expertise and job requirements.” Matt Zimmerle, director of Learning Products for Bentley Institute, added, “Learning paths provide a visual representation of all of the training Bentley has to offer for a speciﬁc product line, including current and previous versions. The core courses needed to become proﬁcient with the software are organized in a ﬂow chart. Decision points help users quickly determine where they should begin and how to advance relative to other integrated Bentley applications. Recommended supplemental OnDemand eLearning follows the core courses to expand or reinforce users’ knowledge.” Users who want to sign-up for the training will ﬁnd hyperlinks to schedules and online registration for live, instructor-led classroom and distance learning. Enterprise Training Subscription and Bentley LEARN subscribers can use the OnDemand eLearning links to access online content for each core course, including handson courseware, video lectures, and blended learning resources. Learning paths are already available for MicroStation, ProjectWise, GEOPAK, InRoads, and Haestad Methods water solutions. Learning paths for additional applications will follow. “As the learning paths evolve, they will become more closely tied to Bentley solutions and direct users to learning paths for integrated applications,” said Zimmerle. Productive learning organization For the individual, a learning path can be a powerful tool for career planning and advancement. “Learning paths help users better understand how they can advance from basic competence to application expertise.
