Be Gallery The Art of Visualization Special Feature: Be Communities e Gallery highlights images from the online Bentley User Gallery, a constantly evolving, online exhibition where MicroStation users showcase their visualization expertise. Here in Be Magazine, you will ﬁnd hand-picked images and commentary from Bentley’s visualization standard bearers: Ray Bentley, executive vice president, software engineering, and Jerry Flynn, the product manager responsible for visualization and animation strategy. November 2008 marked the release of MicroStation V8i and the debut of its integrated Luxology rendering engine, which provides near-real-time rendering in the design application. Fast rendering helps MicroStation users save time and improve the quality of their rendered images. “It’s not often we feature multiple images from one contributor, but this issue we feature the early results of B Be Communities visualization advocate Kurt Singstad’s Luxology rendering work,” Ray Bentley said. “Rendering simpler models helps users like Kurt quickly gain mastery in applying Luxology’s tools.” Singstad, known as KurtS on Be Communities, is a partner at the architectural ﬁrm MAD in Oslo, Norway. We always welcome new submissions that demonstrate the power of MicroStation visualization, and we encourage you to share your work with us. L Blanket (Texture and Bumps) – Adding texture and ripples has traditionally been a painstaking process in developing visualization, but the new Luxology rendering engine makes it easy to add subtle, true-to-life details. M Venus (Environmental Light) – Different lighting and environments are used for this series of renderings.
