This collective effort helps to identify and define exactly what a tactical knife needs to do. CUTTING EDGE The tool must have the capacity to cut a variety of materials including heavy gauge, steel sheet metal and to then keep on cutting. The Benchmade process includes the ability to heat-treat the hardest of steels to not only maximize toughness, but to hold a shaving-fine cutting edge as well. PRACTICAL DESIGN The knife must posses the proper size/weight to performance ratio. Benchmade tactical models not only perform the best, they are efficient in size and weight. Work smarter, not harder. RELIABLE FUNCTIoN Locking/folding mechanisms must operate without fail in all conditions with extreme efficiency and durability. DEvELoPMENT PRoCESS Our development process includes a very rigorous regimen of testing to ensure performance objectives are achieved. Benchmade tactical knives go through two testing protocols: The first, lab testing against other brands in which we strive to completely outclass any other brand in the world in locking mechanism breaking strength, cutting performance, and component strength and durability. The second, even more respected by our special operations customers, is the field application testing conducted by our experienced tactical staff. FIELD ToUGHNESS The knife needs to be able to pry and take heavy impact. That’s why before we start field application cutting tests with one of our tactical folders, we pound it through a 55-gallon steel drum several times with a hammer.
