A properly executed design requires accurate specifications to accompany it. The designer’s intent and installer’s responsibilities are a direct result of properly designed and executed specifications. This seminar teaches the attendees the proper way to write specs to industry standards, construction formatting and codes. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. BICSI Cares Committee Meeting Noon-4 p.m. Installation Committee Meeting 1:30-4:30 p.m. pre-Conference Seminars (Choose one) q “Understanding RF and Cable TV Headends,” James George, American Cable Services, Ocala, Florida 3 CECs – RCDD, NTS Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician SaTURDaY SepTeMBeR 7 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Exhibitor Registration 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Exhibitor Move-in 2-4 p.m. Committee Chair Coordination Meeting 5-6 p.m. Speakers Bureau Meeting 5-8 p.m. Codes Committee Meeting SUNDaY SepTeMBeR 8 7:30 a.m.-7 p.m. BICSI Community: Attendee Registration and Information, BICSI Central, BICSI Store, BICSI Cares, Wi-Fi Zone 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Exhibitor Registration 8 a.m.-noon Membership and Marketing Committee Meeting 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Exhibitor Move-in The frequency of MAC (moves, adds, or changes) within the data centers is increasing due to changes in business growth priorities. This is driving the need for power delivery architecture to be flexible enough to support the dynamic data center growth of not only traditional large data centers, but also within the rack enclosure itself. This seminar will address high-density, modular, scalable power protection architectures by focusing on the entire power chain from the building entrance to the equipment itself. From traditional designs through to distributed rack deployments, sustainable critical power is an essential element in today’s dynamic environments; evaluation of the current data center; power distribution schemes to maximize efficiency and reduce costs of heat; deployment of strategies and sizing for future requirements; legacy versus future trends; TCO through battery management, service and maintenance; electrical system design in consideration of tier I-IV requirements. q “Specification Writing Fundamentals,” Gary Wright, RCDD, URS Corporation, Orlando, Florida 3 CECs – RCDD, NTS Specialty, OSP Specialty, WD Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician Today, information technology specialists need to understand the basic components of a cable TV headend and what to expect in RF levels and values. Once a basic understanding is obtained, troubleshooting a signal reception or distribution problem will be easily completed. This seminar will cover all the basic components of a DISH and DIRECT TV headend, the wiring configurations and signal readings as well as the distribution network for an apartment, condo or multi-story building to include riser diagrams and wall plate (outlet) readings. This seminar does not cover L-Band overlay, but will speak to the adding and troubleshooting of digital QAM. q “Technology Changes in Data Communication Cable and Capabilities,” Bob Kenny, General Cable Corporation, Highland Heights, Kentucky 3 CECs – RCDD, NTS Specialist, ITS Installer/Technician This is a high-level discussion of the changes in technology with regard to data communication cables and fiber optics and their capabilities. 3-5 p.m. Home Technology Meeting 2008 BICSI Fall Conference | page
