Ken now speaks to business groups and academic communities around the world, sharing his philosophy on business and life: “Never do what’s expected, make yourself as noticeably different as possible, and have a lot more fun than you’re supposed to.” 9:30-10:15 a.m. “are You playing in the Zone?” Rodney Casteel, RCDD, CommScope, Villa Rica, Georgia 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician general Session Continued 1:30-2:15 p.m. “government Relations Update,” Richard Reed, RCDD/OSP Specialist, Consultant, BICSI Government Relations 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, OSP Specialty, WD Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician 4:30-7:30 p.m. BICSI Reception and Exhibits 5:30-6 p.m. and 6:30-7 p.m. What’s New? What’s it Do? 2:15-3 p.m. “0 gB ethernet: Copper or Fiber,” Paul Neveux, Ph.D, Superior Essex, Atlanta, Georgia 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician WeDNeSDaY OCTOBeR 7:30-8:45 a.m. BICSI Region Breakfasts 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Exhibitor Registration 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m. BICSI Community: Attendee Registration and Information, BICSI Central, BICSI Cares, BICSI Store, Wi-Fi Zone, Credential Holders Lounge 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Speaker Prep Room 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Press Room 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Guest Hospitality Lounge 9-10 a.m. Concurrent Sessions (Choose one) q “Take a Tour of a Modern Hospital’s Technology Infrastructure,” Mario Sanchez, RCDD, RTKL Associates, Los Angeles, California 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, OSP Specialty, WD Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician “Because that is the way I have always designed it.” Does this sound familiar? While “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” may make sense in some areas, for the network infrastructure design, this approach may just be out-of-date. With all the new trends taking place in networking technologies, such as convergence, intelligent building systems, data center reliability, IP everywhere, “green” etc.; how can you best accommodate all these changes, while saving money and being more efficient? The solution may be simpler than you think. In this presentation we will look at three different architectures addressed in the TIA-568 standards and evaluate why “playing in the zone” just might be your best approach. 10:30-11:30 a.m. “BICSI—The ITS association for the Next generation,” Jerry L. Bowman, RCDD/NTS Specialist, BICSI North-Central Region Director, CommScope Enterprise Solutions, Columbus, Ohio 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, OSP Specialty, WD Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician Now that the requirements for category 6A channels have been published in TIA 568-B.2-10, end users now have to decide between implementing 10 GbE copper or 10 GbE fiber. This presentation discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each media type, including installation issues, the number of channels per cable, service environments and cost of active components. Whether you are an end user, network designer or structure cabling system installer, understanding the impact of the medium chosen on price and performance will help in making the best decision for the application environment. 3-7:30 p.m. Exhibit Hall Visitor Registration 3:30-4:30 p.m. “green Data Centers— Steps to Take Now to Make Your Data Center 0% More efficient,” Wahid Nawabi, APC, Olney, Maryland 1 CEC – NTS Specialty, ITS Installer/Technician This presentation provides an update regarding the NxtGEN Program. Changes to the current BICSI credentialing program, impact to the BICSI credential holders and the future of BICSI through the eyes of the Next Generation of ITS professionals will be discussed. 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Lunch (on your own) Noon-1:30 p.m. Exhibitor Liaison Committee Meeting Data center power and cooling infrastructure worldwide wastes more than 60 million megawatt-hours per year of electricity that does no useful work powering IT equipment. This represents an enormous financial burden on the industry, and is a significant public policy environmental issue. Fortunately, there are many actions users can and should take now to reverse this trend. This presentation will discuss some quantitative examples of new methods for reducing the energy consumption of the power and cooling systems and dramatically improve the electrical efficiency of data centers. From admissions to discharge, a hospital’s technology infrastructure must be robust, flexible and secure. It must be able to handle one of the most mobile workforces, the most critical of data types—vital signs. A hospital’s network must be both mission critical and life critical. Take the RCDD’s perspective and walk through a modern hospital from the front door of the emergency department, onto the radiology area, into the surgery suite and through a page 8 | Register at www.bicsi.org/fall http://www.bicsi.org/fall
