Multimode fiber, OM3 or better, provides optimal bandwidth and reach coverage supporting local networks. The design of the active components and the selection of the multimode fiber and cable type influences system performance to a greater extent than optical skew. Your infrastructure readiness to support future rollouts of 40/100 GbE depends on the proper selection of optical fiber type today. 9:15-10 a.m. “TIa-606-B – The new updated label standard,” Todd Fries, HellermannTyton, Milwaukee, Wisconsin An advanced look at what is being proposed for the new TIA-606-B labeling standard. The current standard TIA-606-A was reaffirmed in June 2007. The new addendum 1 is meant to reconcile 606-A with TIA’s 942 data center standard; 606-A did not really consider data centers and 942 did not consider administra- 1 CEC – NTS, ITS Installer/Technician The release of the IEEE 10GBASE-T Standard for 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) on balanced, twisted-pair cabling has cast a spotlight on the higher bandwidth capabilities of shielded cabling systems and on the different installation considerations for shielded systems. In this episode of Mythbusting, several of the myths associated with shielded cabling are tackled with experiments, hard facts and analysis. Will the “twice the time” thumb rule for shielded installation win hands-down? Can the concerns about ground loops pass the test? Does the antenna effect hold water? How do cable bundles really stack up? Is “the baked potato effect” half-baked? Join us for this thrilling episode and decide for yourself before a myth leaves you defenseless! tion. The two concepts are now jointed together in TIA-606-B. This presentation covers the standard in simple overview so that the audience can understand, respond and give feedback on the proposed changes. Closing General session 10-10:15 a.m. Break 10:15-10:30 a.m. BICSI Cares Presentation and Drawing 10:30-11:15 a.m. Closing Keynote speaker—lou Holtz is the only coach in the history of college football to take six different teams to bowl games, winning five games with different teams, and to have four different college teams ranked in the Top 20. From 1969 to 2004, his coaching career spanned many seasons at prestigious colleges such as William and Mary, Minnesota, Arkansas, North Carolina State, University of South Carolina and a lengthy 11 season run at Notre Dame. Currently, Lou Holtz serves as a college football studio analyst on ESPN. Lou Holtz appears on ESPNEWS’ ADT Coaches Spotlight, ESPN2’s College Game Day programs, and SportsCenter. He is also considered among the greatest motivational speakers in America today. Join Lou as he delivers an inspirational message about overcoming seemingly impossible challenges by setting personal goals and striving to achieve them. 11:15-11:30 a.m. Conference Wrap-up and Closing Video 11:30 a.m.-noon Door Prize Drawing q definition Traffic and surveillance “High Cams – What is the ‘net’ effect?” Ron Thompson, Signamax Connectivity Systems, Miami, Florida 1 CEC – NTS, ITS Installer/Technician This presentation examines municipalities’ plans and implementation of high definition IP network cameras for traffic control, traffic ticket issuance, monitoring of traffic flow and public safety. This presentation includes the reasons behind a municipality’s decision to proceed with such a plan, whether a municipality’s network infrastructure is up to the task, where potential network design pitfalls lie and how they might be avoided. Designing a network incorporating additional public safety add-ons will also be discussed. 6:15-7 p.m. Cocktail Reception 7-10 p.m. BICSI Awards Banquet 1997 A milestone is reached as BICSI membership climbs to more than 10,000.
