Salot Jr., Electronic Component Certification Board (ECCB), Midland, Texas With the passage of European regulations to address potential impacts of chemicals, more requirements are being placed on manufacturers, as well as wholesale and retail outlets, to know what is in their products. What do these programs require? How do you ensure that your products/buildings or the products you buy and sell meet these new requirements? What is the likelihood that this type of regulation will appear in North America? What has been the experience of the electronics manufacturing industry with international operations and how have they prepared for this type of program in the U.S.? This session will provide insight and offer the opportunity to ask questions. 2:15-3 p.m. “u.s. Green Building Council and leed for Green Building,” Brendan Owens, U.S. Green Building Council, Washington, D.C. The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Green Building Rating System is the premier green building program in the nation. Learn about what LEED is, how it works and what’s new in the LEED 2009 release. BICSI is currently working with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to develop strategies for the recognition of technology infrastructurerelated innovation credits in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) green building certification system. While it is true there is no official requirement for communications within the LEED process, there is a growing expectation on the part of architects and consulting engineers that RCDDs working on their design projects will bring solutions to the table in keeping with the core principles of LEED.
