BLITZ Magazine Demo - (Page 43) Blitz: How hard was this injury on you? KP: It was tough. I was just starting to get going. I had three interceptions and was ready to take off. Blitz: Tell me what you were thinking when that outrageous brawl between Florida International University and your Hurricanes occurred last season? KP: I couldn’t believe what was taking place. But, I can’t really talk too much about that. Blitz: What was your top moment of last season? KP: The Duke game. I had three interceptions that game. It was after the FIU game and half our team was serving their suspensions. I had to play safety and corner, and even got a pick from corner. We had freshmen out there. It was tough, but I had to step up and felt I was there for our team. Blitz: What’s your favorite part about the sport of football? KP: The fourth quarter when there is a minute or so left. That’s when everybody tries to make plays and the game is on the line. That’s when you find out what you’re made of. Blitz: Are you and your family close? KP: Very. Blitz: You have a younger brother? KP: Yes, he’s 18, just signed with FIU. He’s a linebacker. Blitz: Who’s better? KP: [Laughs] Me. Hands down. Blitz: You know we’ll have to ask Jarvis about that Kenny. KP: [Laughs] We play FIU and that’s all he’s been able to talk about. I said to him, ‘Ain’t no one worry about you, boy.’ Blitz: What would you say your strengths are? KP: Tackling and coverage. I can drop down in the box anytime and have the ability to get back and make a play on the deep ball. I’m not the fastest, but I get back there. Blitz: Weaknesses? KP: Trusting myself. It’s what coaches tell me. Blitz: How do you go about improving on trusting your instincts? KP: I talk to Ed [Reed] about it. It’s trial and error. I go ahead and work on it. Blitz: When you step on the field, what should your opponent fear most? KP: That I’m going to hit them in the mouth. I don’t talk trash on the field. I come to play and they have to bring their A game. Blitz: How do you think your opponents would describe you? KP: A big physical kid, with good speed, plays smart, doesn’t take too many chances, makes good decisions. Blitz: What accomplishment are you most proud of? KP: Coming to college. My mom and dad didn’t get a chance to go to college. Blitz: What do you offer that separates you from others? KP: My personality. The type of guy I am. I feel I’m a pretty good talent, but I don’t boast. Blitz: Where do you get that from? KP: My parents. Blitz: Is there anything you’d like to say to your fans? KP: Thanks for being there for me. Believing in me. Thanks for all the support. I play the game, but without them, there wouldn’t be me. Blitz: Tell me about your journey to where you are now: the University of Miami. KP: It’s crazy when you have so many choices. You can go anywhere you want to go. It came down to the University of Tennessee and Miami for me. I loved Tennessee, but being close to home, well, I’m a family man. Plus my teammates, I knew half of them already. Blitz: Where do you hang out? KP: I don’t hang out too much. I stay to myself. Hang out with teammates, friends. Blitz: What’s your favorite restaurant? KP: Outback. Blitz: Do you like freshwater fishing or saltwater? KP: Fresh. There are too many things that can kill me in salt. I don’t like to be around things that can eat me. Blitz: Do you play video games? KP: Not like the other guys. They play Madden. I play games like Mario Brothers, kiddy games like Spiderman, Mario Kart. Blitz: You grew up in Miami, you played Pop Warner football in Miami, high school ball in Miami, now college ball. What’s that like? KP: There is so much support. I walk around town and everyone knows you are trying to do something positive. They want you to succeed. Blitz: I’m sure I know the answer to this but I’ll ask, if you could pick any NFL team to play on, which would it be? KP: [Laughs] Miami. .
