Be Where People Spend Their Time Star power is great, but we all know it's the day-to-day work that makes the difference in the long run. We can do the agents we work with a great favor by introducing them to the power of social media content. Clearly we lag behind other industries when it comes to taking advantage of getting our message across where Americans spend a lot of time: online, and specifically on social media. On average, Americans spend more than three hours a day on social media sites, according to a 2013 report by Ispos Open Thinking Exchange. Coming up with content, however, can be difficult. But it doesn't have to be for NAILBA members. You can access a large quantity of prewritten and predesigned content that's 100% ready for Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Pinterest, and other social media channels. For example, for LIAM, Life Happens has a created a complete social media content calendar that has a month's worth of posts, tweets, small infographics, and quote graphics that you and your agents can simply grab and use. Plus, the content is all third party and neutral. A second even simpler solution is letting your agents know that they can follow Life Happens on its various social media channels and share the content they feel is relevant. Reaching Millions If you're wondering about the power or reach of these messages, just know that last September during LIAM, a post that Life Happens put up on its Facebook page reached over 1 million people-yes 1 million. It featured the Real Life Story of a young single mom, Summer, who protected her son with life insurance for just $12 a month, and then was tragically killed. The reception on Facebook to this sad, but also inspiring, story was overwhelming. These are the kinds of stories and messages that agents can leverage via Life Happens. The bottom line is that the social media content that Life Happens creates is a conversation starter. Below is a quote from an agent talking about how he uses one post from Life Happens' Facebook feed each work day to generate business: "In one month, I've written six applications just from Life Happens Facebook postings and by reaching out to Facebook friends via private message. People never answer their phones anymore, but if I send a private message on Facebook, I often hear back in hours-sometimes seconds. It blows my mind!"
