Grant Funding in Action
I
t is so gratifying to hear back
from the charities that have
received grants from the
NAILBA Charitable Foundation.
Grant winners are required to report
back to the Foundation on how the
funds were utilized. They are rightfully proud of the good things they
have accomplished, but most of all,
they are always so grateful for our
support. We like to highlight some
of the good things the NAILBA Charitable Foundation AND YOU helped
make happen. Let me highlight a
few grant winners from 2013. . .
The Brain Tumor Foundation
for Children, sponsored by James
Meaders of NAILBA member agency National Insurance Brokerage,
received a grant of $20,000 to temporarily ease the financial burden
placed on families as a result of
their child's life-threatening brain
or spinal cord tumor diagnosis, helping the family to concentrate on
what is most important-their seriously ill child. That is exactly what
was accomplished.

funding from James Meaders of NAILBA member agency National

We were considered a "major contributor" to The Butterfly Fund, helping to fund social workers at 22 children's medical centers in 8 states
process 429 applications for financial assistance for 222 families in the
12-month time period that our grant
covered. We helped provide housing and utilities, car payments and
repairs, grocery gift cards, and very
sadly, funeral expenses. The NAILBA
Charitable Foundation gave the largest grant they received in that fiscal year, making a huge difference to
their relatively small budget.
When asked, "Did receiving
financial assistance during your
child's treatment have an indirect
positive effect on your child's emotional and/or physical well being?"
90% of parents responding replied,
"Yes." One responding family said,
"I could have never imagined what
life could be like with a child with
stage 4 brain cancer. Yet people and
organizations like this one keep us
going. Please share with everyone
that this will make a huge difference
to our family. This is HUGE!"
The Dream Connection of Knoxville, TN, sponsored by John Felton
of Tennessee Brokerage Agency,
thanked us for the fact that 100%
of our grant funding went toward
the dreams of children with lifethreatening illnesses. They told
us about
■ A young lady fighting cancer who
had a dream to record her own
CD. She got to meet her favorite
gospel music singer, and to
realize her dream
■ One little boy wanted to travel to
Disney with his family, but was
too ill to go. His "dream team"
took Disney items to him in the
intensive care unit.
■ A brave 12-year old was facing
his second of likely many open
heart surgeries and asked for a
video game system. His "dream
captains" instead gave him a full
game room with special effects
and games.
None of these dreams, and many
more, would have been possible
without our assistance.
