ou are only one catastrophic
moment
away from your family being totally devastated." This is
something that Danica Patrick, our
spokesperson for Life Insurance
Awareness Month, has said. It's
also something that most consumers don't want to think about, but
it's their family that could suffer if
they don't.
Unfortunately, at least 1,500
kids have found this out the hard
way. That's the number of students
who applied to the Life Lessons
Scholarship Program this year.
This program, which Life Happens
created and runs, gives scholarships to deserving students who
have lost a parent who had little
or no life insurance, and who are
now struggling financially to get a
college education.
This year the Life Lessons
Scholarship Program will award
scholarships to 22 students totaling $200,000. As NAILBA members, you can be proud of this
program as well. The NAILBA
Charitable Foundation supports
Life Lessons each year with a
generous donation.
But this program is not just
about lending a hand to these kids
who are so deserving of help. The
scholarship recipients' stories,
which they generously share, are
also a means to educate other families about the importance of life
insurance planning and what can
happen to families if that planning
isn't in place. You can view and

As a member of the Life Happens Board of Directors, I helped to
screen some of the 1,500 applications, and a couple of the phrases
that I see in the applications over
and over is that "we were a normal family before this happened"
