New Attending Physician Statement Summary Course
A new Attending Physician Statement (APS) Summary Course
has been written for NAILBA by Hank George, CLU. He is an
underwriting expert who provides an independent continuing
medical education program for life, health, disability, critical illness, and long term care underwriters. Offered exclusively to NAILBA members, this APS guide is designed to help
BGA staff explain the health risks posed by potential insurance applicants by helping staff organize, read, and summarize medical records for presentation to underwriters.

The original APS course was created by George in 2010
under the direction of NAILBA's Professional Development
Committee's (PDC) Year Round Education section. While
the new APS course was being developed, this section was
chaired by two principals of the Milner Group, Chad Milner
in 2016 and Abby Milner Mann in 2017. The section's members recognized an update was long overdue because of the
many advances and changes in underwriting applicants for
various impairments. These developments in underwriting
are reflected in the new course for which the PDC provided
input and feedback.
"The revised APS course enables BGA staff to acquire the
fundamental knowledge and insight needed to review medical records from attending physicians, clinics, and hospitals, and to identify the essential information underwriters need to determine an insurance applicant's insurability,"
Mann said. "The PDC is pleased to offer this new course that
fits with the type of information that must be input now."
