How to Leverage ASNG in 2018

T

his is my first year chairing
the NAILBA Agency Successor Networking Group. I will
have some big shoes to fill following John Gilbert of The National
Benefit Group and prior to him Brittany Cross of LFS Insurance Services. Both have done an amazing job
of bringing valuable training and
educational opportunities to ASNG
members over the past couple of
years. I hope to continue where they
left off. Here's to 2018 and beyond.
This past November at the NAILBA 36 Annual Meeting the Agency Successor Networking Group got
together for their annual workshop
for the sixth time. How exciting! We
had the opportunity to have Melinda Meyer, Founder and President of
Aspen Strategies, LLC speak to the
group on organizational and operational management. In our session,
Gaining Traction through the Art of
Staffing-The Recipe for Creating Your
Super Power, Melinda went through a
series of recommendations and her
best practices to help us gain a better understanding of what and what

not to look for in potential employees. Melinda then gave us the opportunity to "round table" our thoughts
and think collectively to bring to the
table issues we may have encountered past and present.
One of the most valuable resources NAILBA's ASNG's gives us is the
opportunity to learn from each other.
As we begin the path toward leadership we don't all have the robust leadership training programs or resources
to help us become better leaders. A
majority of our businesses are still
family-owned, small, and regional
and don't always provide what some
in the corporate world would call a
"Career Track." That's why a group
like ASNG can be so valuable to principal members as well as their leaders. This is a community where future
leaders can discuss issues and figure out best practices based on the
successes and failures of our fellow
NAILBA members.
Over the next year our ASNG will
be focusing on three main areas to
help provide more value to its members. First, we will begin by reach-

ing out to existing members about
ASNG who may have potential ASNG
members in their office. Second, we
will focus on the content, training
topics, and networking opportunities we provide during our monthly webinar program and at the NAILBA Annual Meeting this upcoming
November. Our third goal will be to
create a medium that helps connect
ASNG members to other ASNG members when a member has a question
or needs help. Those three goals will
help build ASNG and create more value not only to ASNG members but to
their respective agency principals.
As NAILBA continues to bring value to brokerage agencies throughout
the industry and helps connect carriers, vendors, and consultants to
the world we live in, ASNG will be an
integral part in helping develop our
future brokerage principals and leaders. Stay tuned to see what we have
in store for 2018 and if you have a
suggestion or recommendation or
ideas to help ASNG, don't be shy, I'm
