SAFETY AWARDS
At a special ceremony on March 14,
2017, the OOC presented Safety
Recognition Awards to Members of
Congress whose office spaces were
found to be hazard-free during the
biennial OSH inspections for the
114th Congress. These awards were
presented to 69 Senate offices and 88
House offices.
The OOC also presented Safety
Advocate Awards to two individuals
for their substantial contributions
to improving safety in legislative
branch facilities. These awards
were presented to Kurt Kuhn,
Safety Manager for the Library of
Congress, and to the family of the
late Francis "Mo" Mowbray, Safety
Manager for the Library Buildings
and Grounds jurisdiction of the
Architect of the Capitol. These two
safety professionals were lauded not
only for partnering with the OOC
during biennial inspections, but also
for exhibiting exceptional support
of safety processes and hazardreduction efforts.

The safety awards ceremony opened with the Presentation of Colors by the U.S. Capitol Police
Honor Guard.

These awards were presented in
partnership with the National Safety
Council, a nonprofit organization
committed to eliminating preventable
deaths at work, in homes, and
in communities.
Inspections are already underway for
the 115th Congress, with awards to be
presented in early 2019.
