Signature - Q1, 2008 - (Page 15) 9:05 a.m. 7:55 a.m. 5:45 a.m. My neighbor Doug and I are far apart on our morning bike ride, but we chat easily via the Bluetooth enabled headsets inside our helmets. When the exertion makes conversation difficult, we both switch from phone to music mode, and soon we’re pedaling to our favorite tunes. At breakfast, my teenage daughter is text-messaging with her friend when suddenly she reaches for the TV remote. In an instant, the LCD screen on the kitchen counter shows a video, wirelessly streamed from her cell phone, of her friend’s family on vacation at the beach. At my client’s office, we wirelessly synchronize our laptop project calendars, then place a conference call to two remote offices. We all view a presentation, e-mailed yesterday, on monitors at each office, and we make notes using Bluetooth enabled whiteboards. Afterward, we transfer the notes from the whiteboards to our laptops. 8:37 a.m. My cell phone rings on the drive to work, and I see from the caller ID displayed on the rearview mirror that it’s my client. Voice recognition capabilities let me answer the call hands-free. Our meeting location has been changed, but I don’t lose my way thanks to the Bluetooth wireless GPS unit clipped on the sunshade.
