Signature - Q4, 2007 - (Page 7) Unplug in Vegas Test, Taste and Tee Off at TI The first UnPlugFest (UPF) of the new year will take place 1115 February 2008, at Las Vegas’ Treasure Island casino, hotel and convention center. Engineers are encouraged to attend UPFs, where they can test devices with products from other members in real-world interoperability scenarios. That helps ensure products work together as expected by end users. When the workday is done, take time to unlock the secrets of the Las Vegas nightlife. Treasure Island hosts a pirate’s bounty of restaurants, lounges and bars where you can unwind before trying your hand at one of the hundreds of game tables and slot machines in the casino. Check out Cirque du Soleil’s magical Mystère, performed in the hotel’s Mystère Theatre. (Be sure to book your tickets well in advance.) With a spa, two golf courses, a tropical pool, 12 shops and a bridge to the Fashion Show mall, Treasure Island offers everything you need for a relaxing week and a productive UPF. Did you know? – Treasure Island’s chapel offers live Web streaming of weddings. Bluesightings . . . Devices Are Popping Up Everywhere Spotting Bluetooth technology in our everyday lives is becoming a common occurrence. Take a look at some of the latest appearances. • Headset Roundup We noticed Bluetooth enabled headsets in recent episodes of 24, Whose Wedding is it Anyway?, The Simpsons and The Sopranos, as well as the Kevin Costner thriller Mr. Brooks. And Netto grocery stores in Europe now sell Nextlink’s Bluespoon headset. • 2007 Mazda CX-9 They say what happens here stays here, but you can bring back UnPlugFest test results. A TV commercial for this vehicle advertises its Bluetooth enabled hands-free calling feature. • What’s the Word? Members of the Roundtable, Unite! Speak and Ye Shall Be Heard In the spirit of collaboration and communication, the Bluetooth SIG regularly hosts roundtable events, where members can learn the latest news about Bluetooth wireless technology and provide feedback on how the organization can better serve its members. If you would like some face time with Bluetooth SIG executive staff, as well as regional membership and marketing personnel, then plan to attend one of these upcoming events, which are free and open to Promoter and Associate members. • Tokyo, 09 November • Seoul, 20 November • Taipei, 22 November The board game Orijinz includes “Bluetooth” in its play on word derivation (www.orijinz.com). • In the Paper The Wall Street Journal included Bluetooth technology in a (semi) humorous June article about the consequences of accidental cell phone calls.
