Signature Q4 2008 - (Page 3) Connect | Photography by Paul Marko | Q4 ’08 One of the core missions of the Bluetooth SIG is to evangelize Bluetooth wireless technology. While we have long been committed to building consumer awareness of the brand and the technology (and we’re being recognized for those efforts today), we’ve taken this commitment to a new level in 2008 with two key partnerships that promise to extend members’ reach in the consumer market. Our agreement with Fox Home Entertainment (FOX) lets Bluetooth SIG members access the entire home entertainment market through exclusive category sponsorships for upcoming theatrical and DVD releases. This is a magnificent venue for promotion and product awareness. Another avenue for promotion is through our agreement with Spirit, the in-flight publication of Southwest Airlines. Bluetooth SIG members can receive a 10 percent discount on ads placed in the January 2009 issue – perfect timing for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. These two programs tie in well with initiatives within the retail market. Along with the Retail Committee, the Bluetooth SIG has developed a consumerfocused microsite for online retailers that educates consumers and promotes Bluetooth technology and its applications. On the brickand-mortar side, new displays and signage help retailers better educate consumers on the showroom floor. Find out more about these retail programs starting on page 16. Elsewhere in this issue, we explore other ways Bluetooth technology is expanding its reach and influence in the marketplace, from disease management (page 23) and hands-free driving (page 21) to wearables (pages 30 and 31) and the drive-through lane (page 22). Don’t forget to check out Checkout on page 24, where we highlight some of the hottest products for the holiday season. And finally, as we enter the home stretch for specification adoption and qualification of Bluetooth low energy and high speed technologies, we can look forward to products appearing in the market in the second half of 2009. Watch for the earliest low energy applications to arrive in the sensor market, particularly within industrial applications. For more on this key market segment, see page 18. Let us know what you think! You can leave feedback on the Web at bluetooth.com/signature. Raising Awareness The Bluetooth SIG works hard to advance Bluetooth technology. As a result, we were recently named “the Most Innovative Company in Europe.”* It’s yet another way we’re making our mark in the wireless industry.
