Signature Q4 2008 - (Page 32) GET IN THE GAME Dave Kossey of Amarillo, Texas, is an entrepreneur at heart. At the age of 14 he started a landscaping business that grew to include more than 60 clients. At 19, he started and still runs an office furniture business. Now 22, Kossey spends his free time thinking up new business opportunities or ways to improve on current technology. One such idea won Kossey the Motorola prize package in SIGnature magazine’s April ’08 Get in the Game contest. “Something I thought would be an interesting use for Bluetooth technology would be ‘paintless paintball,’” Kossey says. “Remember the old-school laser tag games, where you had a receiver on your chest and you used a laser gun to ‘shoot’ people? Well, considering that some kids are getting cell phones as young as seven, at least in my family, how neat would it be to have Bluetooth enabled tag, where your headset would tell you if you ‘shot’ the other person?” Kossey explains that the idea would make it possible to play a game of paintball or some other type of technological tag inside, or in other areas where traditional paintball would be too messy or dangerous. Also, with the use of Bluetooth enabled headsets, team members could communicate with each other more easily. “I think Bluetooth technology is ideal for this kind of game, with its shorter range and lack of Visit Bluetooth.com to read interference with other wireless what our two finalists suggested should be Bluetooth enabled. technologies,” Kossey says.
