The International Trade Fair for Household Appliances was held Feb. 18-21 in Cologne, Germany. The show featured a newly structured segmentation along with a focus on current trends in the appliance industry. Wolfgang Kranz, executive vice-president Koelnmesse GmbH, said that the new segmentation and special events with different trend themes generated “predominantly positive feedback,” clearly confirming acceptance of the changes made. Kranz said that exhibitors were also happy with the high quality and international breadth of attendees. The show drew an estimated 11,000 visitors from 99 countries to view products on display by 771 exhibiting companies from 37 countries. “We reached the target figure we set,” Kranz said of the attendance. Roughly 74 percent of the non-German visitors came from other countries in www.applianceDESIGN.com V Europe, and about 87 percent of exhibitors came from outside Germany. “The high foreign share on both the visitor and exhibitor side underlined the significance of domotechnica as an international sector platform,” Kranz said. In addition, an energy-efficiency competition presented awards to two automatic cof- fee makers, one from Jura and the other from WIK Elektro-Hausgeräte. Energyefficient products were also sought out at exhibitors’ stands. “The very good response at our stand has clearly shown that energy efficiency is the central theme of our times,” said Markus Eisenbeiss, Head Office MSX Technology, Switzerland. Eisenbeiss noted that the strong media presence confirms that energy efficiency is a valuable tool for sales and marketing. The lifestyle theme of coffee enjoyment was also emphasized at domotechnica, as evidenced by the interest in a special section called Coffee Cologne.
