Appliance Design - June 2008 - (Page 2) ELECTRONIC DEVICES TO ENHANCE HUMAN INTERFACE Alps has been developing a variety of high quality components built into appliances throughout the world. Our reputation for reliability, performance and cost efficiency is unmatched. Email sales@alps.com to find out how we can support your design needs today! Alps Advantages Low-profile and light-weight pointing devices designed for ease of use. Maintenance-free performances are provided by elimination of moving parts. Adoption of capacitive system provides light finger touch. The tapping function allows for most graphic selections to be achieved with one finger operation. Basic structure and detecting principle The figure to the left shows the structure of Capacitive Touchpads. X- and Y-electrodes are created by multi-layer elements. The capacitive distortion between the two electrodes is detected. The approach of your finger to the Capacitive Touchpad causes a change in the electric field and as a result the capacitance is changed. The ALPS touchpad detects the change in this capacitance and determines the coordinates accordingly. FULL RANGE OF COMPONENTS FOR EVERY DESIGN.
