China has banned the production of chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) in line with global agreements to phase out the use of ozone layer-depleting products. With the exception of raw materials and aerosols used for medicinal purposes and other exempted uses, the production of CFCs was banned as of July 1. Relevant companies must demolish equipment involved in the production of CFC substances by August 15. SCORING GLOBAL WARMING. A new “scorecard,” developed by the nonprofit group Climate Counts, rated 56 corporations across eight business sectors on their commitment to reversing climate change. Consumers can review all the company scores and download a pocket-sized shopping guide at the organization’s web site: www.climatecounts.org. They will also be able to look up company rankings by texting on their cell phones so that they can refer to the rankings while they shop.
