HAIER SALES NEAR $15B. Sales by the NEW PLANT PLANNED. Sub-Zero Wolf Inc. plans to build a 200,000-square-foot plant in Richmond, Ky. The Madison, Wis.-based company builds high-end refrigerators, freezers, wine storage units, and cooking appliances. Haier Group are expected to near $15 billion in 2007, according to the company. The China-based company says that overseas sales could rise to about $5 billion. Sales inside China may reach $10 billion. The company also announced plans to add an R&D unit to its recently purchased manufacturing facility in India. The company acquired the factory from India-based Anchor Daewoo Industries Ltd. Initially, Haier will make refrigerators at the plant, which has the capacity to make 350,000 refrigerators, as well as about 300,000 clothes washing machines and 500,000 color TVs. BRAZILIAN EXPANSION. Japan-based Toshiba Corp. plans to expand manu- COMMERCIAL EFFICIENCY. The Environmental Protection Agency released Energy Star specifications for commercial dishwashers and ice machines. More efficient equipment can save restaurants and food service facilities from 10 to 30 percent on energy consumption. The specifications require the machines to meet maximum energy and water-efficiency savings to earn the Energy Star label. The program took effect Oct. 11, 2007, for dishwashers and will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2008, for icemakers. fresh air FTC’s new EnergyGuide label. FTC OK’S LABEL. The Federal Trade Commission has announced a new EnergyGuide label. Developed after a two-year review, the label will feature a streamlined look and prominently display the estimated yearly operating costs for the appliance.
