Appliance Design - November 2007 - (Page 8) NEWS WATCH DOMOTECHNICA RETURNS he international home appliance trade fair known as domotechnica returns to Koelnmesse in Cologne, Germany, next year with a new structure and new features. The show will be held Feb. 18-21 and will display a broad selection of major appliances, small appliances, home automation systems, and appliance components. The new structure for domotechnica, which is arranged primarily by quality and themes, replaces the previous division of the show into large and small household appliances. The new arrangement features three main sections, each with a separate location and visual character. The “domo – Selection” section will present brand-name items supplied by exhibitors from Germany and abroad. The products will stand out in terms of their quality, function and design. On display will be major appliances for the kitchen and laundry areas; comfort appliances such as heating units, air conditioners; and a variety of small appliances, including those based around health and wellness. In the separate “Global Sources” area, visitors will encounter the innovations and technical achievements from the emerging markets. This section will offer insight into new markets and open up new opportunities for future business activities. The “domo – Components” section addresses the appliance components industry, where visitors can discover the latest technical advances for the development of household appliances. The appliance fair will also feature various high-profile theme worlds that address and highlight current trends shaping the market for household appliances. Among the planned themes are the production and consumption of coffee, products for senior citizens, personal care and wellness, home automation, and design and lifestyle, all of which are becoming increasingly important to the household appliance sector. The T aims of the theme worlds are to present current trends and to offer sales arguments to the specialist trade. Also new for the 2008 show is a recently established partnership between domotechnica and the Plus X Award, Europe’s largest competition for technology products. Each year, the contest recognizes the best brand products in four categories: Innovation, Design, User-Friendliness and Ecology. The entries are assessed by a panel of leading journalists and market experts from the consumer electronics sector and the market for electrical products. One of the highlights at domotechnica 2008 will be a “Hall of Fame” that presents the winning products from the segment of electrical products and home technology. Crazy about coffee Coffee in all its variations is Germany’s favorite beverage, but the beverage enjoys a surging popularity the world over. The small appliance sector clearly benefits from this trend as it develops an ever-increasing array of coffee-related products to serve it. In recognition of this trend, domotechnica 2008 will stage a special event called Coffee Cologne. This comprehensive special show will provide the manufacturers of coffee machines with an opportunity to showcase their products near cross-selling articles such as coffee-related accessories and various types of coffee. As a result, trade visitors from the retail and catering sectors will be able to catch up on all the latest coffee trends in one single exhibition area. The Coffee Cologne show will explore six aspects of coffee: 4Beans and More. The area will feature a selection of the latest home roasters. In addition, coffee producers will present their own readymade blends as well as specialist and single-origin coffees. Raw beans will also be displayed and roasted in this area of the show. 8 applianceDESIGN November 2007 www.applianceDESIGN.com http://www.appliancedesign.com
