To date, Siemens has received $2.4 billion in wind turbine orders from U.S. customers this fiscal year. FPL Energy is the largest operator of wind farms in the United States, with 56 projects in 16 states. Siemens’ units will add another 500 megawatts of capacity, enough to power approximately 150,000 households. “This order is evidence of the tremendous growth that Siemens Energy is experiencing in the wind energy business,” says René Umlauft, CEO of Siemens’ Renewable Energy Division. According to Umlauft, to fill this latest order, Siemens will expand the turbineblade manufacturing facility it recently opened in Fort Madison, Iowa, creating 200 new jobs. with Hisense-Kelon performing some refrigerator assembly as part of the effort. “Our joint-venture with Hisense is consistent with Whirlpool Corp.’s business strategy, which allows us to attract and retain loyal customers to our brands by continuously bringing innovation to the market and improving our global platform,” says Whirlpool CEO Jeff M. Initial production will be 60,000 engines annually.
