Webcast: Cut Bonding Costs by 30 Percent BENSENVILLE, IL— ASSEMBLY magazine’s online university series begins another year of classes on Tuesday, March 3, at 2 p.m. EST with a session on lightcuring adhesives, featuring Virginia Read and Kyle Rhodes of adhesives and curing equipment manufacturer DYMAX Corp. (Torrington, CT). The free presentation will explore the ways in which manufacturers can increase productivity and reduce waste with light-curing adhesives. Read and Rhodes will also provide a number of realworld examples of how manufacturers have cut costs and increased quality with these materials. MagneMotion Moves its Headquarters DEVENS, MA—Electromagnetic transport equipment manufacturer MagneMotion Inc. has moved to a new headquarters and production facility in the former Fort Devens military complex. The new space is about twice as big as the company’s previous facility. MagneMotion manufactures a wide range of material-handling products, including the QuickStick linear synchronous motor. The company made the move to accommodate its growing business. In particular, the company says it needed additional space to facilitate the construction and testing of large linear synchronous motors and Maglev transport systems. Plant of the Year Award Enters 6th Year BENSENVILLE, IL—ASSEMBLY magazine is now accepting nominations for its 6th annual Assembly Plant of the Year contest. The goal of the Assembly Plant of the Year award is to identify a state-of-the-art facility that has applied world-class processes to reduce production costs, increase productivity, shorten time to market and improve product quality. All manufacturers that assemble products in the United States are invited to nominate their plants. Previous recipients of the award include IBM Corp. (Poughkeepsie, NY); Schneider Electric/Square D (Lexington, KY); Lear Corp. (Montgomery, AL); Xerox Corp. (Webster, NY); and Kenworth Truck Co. (Renton, WA). All nominations will be evaluated by a group of outside experts and ASSEMBLY’s editorial staff, based on criteria such as: Have assembly processes been improved through the use of new technology? Has the plant improved its performance by making more effective use of existing technology? Has the plant taken steps to reduce production costs? Have new or improved assembly processes resulted in increased productivity? Nomination forms for the 2009 award are now available on the ASSEMBLY web site at www.assemblymag.com.
