The parts needed to be indexed into position on a rotary indexer, held in a high-temperature plasma jet stream for a specified period of time, then quickly removed from the stream. A key requirement for the application was that the parts pass through the boundaries of the jet stream in a minimal amount of time and to stop at the center of the jet stream without overshoot. This application was particularly difficult because of the accuracy requirements, the size of the load, and the positioning speed requirements. Combined positioning error and overshoot had to be kept within an angular range of one arc-minute (0.016 degrees). The load weight was 5,200lbs with a load inertia of 10,700 in-lb-sec2. The parts also needed to be indexed 30 degrees in less than 0.35 seconds. The solution for the customer’s application was a Sankyo custom-designed 55DUA servo indexer incorporating Sankyo America’s RollerDriveTM technology. Sankyo’s RollerDriveTM is a no-backlash gear reducer which uses rolling contact to transmit torque. The final solution incorporated a 100 horsepower servo motor coupled to Sankyo’s 55DUA unit with a gear reduction of 80:1. No other servo index manufacturer could provide a solution because of the extreme requirements. The no-backlash nature of the RollerDriveTM allows for performance that was previously thought impossible. O Sankyo 937-498-4901 sales@sankyoamerica.com www.sankyoamerica.com arge Aerospace companies across the globe process several types of TFE conductor wire, including small and large diameter coaxial cables, using the Schleuniger CoaxStrip 5500 programmable coaxial cable stripping machine. Decades of using Schleuniger wire processing machines have proven successful for these companies in saving countless hours of labor and providing better quality. Not only have efficiencies been seen, but there are significantly reduced instances of employee injuries as well. Aerospace assembly subcontractors also utilize Schleuniger equipment to ensure that their production lines provide nothing but the best to their first-class Aerospace clients. Products like the powerful Schleuniger PowerStrip 9500 cut and strip machine provide precision cutting and stripping for critical applications such as cutting cable to exact lengths using an encoder. Schleuniger’s UniStrip line is used for stripping very difficult “hook-up” wire that is typically used in aircraft instruments and in-flight entertainment systems. The OC 3950, Schleuniger’s automatic, high-performance cutter, and the JacketStrip 8300, a jacket stripper for out-of-round cables, are also used for processing “inline” twisted pair cables that are used for aircraft assembly. Whatever the need, Schleuniger provides the widest range of wire processing equipment to serve their Aerospace clients. From automatic cable cutter & stripper machines to wire crimping machines and seal & crimp machines, it doesn’t stop there. Schleuniger also delivers innovative products for automation as well as accessory equipment for wire labeling, marking, feeding and more.
