Assembly Planbook - March 2009 - (Page 29) Robotics Notebook they are installed from shock loads and vibration. The pins provide a uniform radial force against the surfaces of the holes in which they are installed across 270 degrees of contact. Because of their flexibility, the coiled pins require far less insertion force than solid machined pins. In the case of the Norica Laurona application, this means trigger assemblies are that much easier to disassemble during maintenance in the field. The pins are supplied with a phosphate and oil finish, which provides corrosion protection and matches the color of the rest of the trigger assembly. USING TECHNO AUTOMATION By employing a three-robot welding cell, Manitowoc Cranes reduced production times and freed up a number of its skilled welders for other duties in the plant. R AGE VOY SER VB1 IES Stock Lengths Up To 3 Meters Custom Lengths Up To 6 Meters All Steel Profile Rail For High Load Capacity 50mm Wide Steel Reinforced Belt For Heavy Loads repeatability of ±0.06 millimeter. Each robot is equipped with a TimeTwin TPS 5000 digital welding package and a Robacta Twin Compact 900amp water-cooled tandem-arc GMAW torch package from Fronius USA LLC (Brighton, MI). A pair of MHT-3000 headstocktailstock positioners—also from Motoman—locates the beams for welding. Motoman also provided a set of custom hydraulic clamping fixtures for the two headstock-tailstock positioners. A large spanner between the faceplates can be adjusted to accommodate the different outrigger beam lengths. For more on robotic welding, call 937847-6200 or visit www.motoman.com.
