Angelika Amend, lawyer in Kronberg/Ts., was appointed administrator for Mania Technologie AG and Arno Wolf, lawyer, was appointed administrator for Mania Deutschland GmbH and Mania Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH. During the course of the preliminary insolvency proceedings, a purchaser was found for Mania Group’s world-wide outsourcing business and for Mania Technologie Belgium N.V.—ESO Luxco I S.à r.l.—so that the overseas subsidiaries operating in the outsourcing business division and Mania Technologie Belgium N.V. in its field of business will continue operations after the institution of the insolvency proceedings. SEMI Reports First Quarter Worldwide Semiconductor Equipment Figures San Jose, Calif. – According to SEMI, worldwide semiconductor manufacturing equipment billings reached USD 10.56 billion in Q1 FY 08; this is a 7 percent decrease from Q4 FY 07 and a 2 percent decrease from Q1 FY 07. Semiconductor equipment bookings were USD 8.08 billion in Q1 FY 08, a 23 percent decrease from Q1 FY 07 and an 11 percent decrease from Q4 FY 07. According to Stanley T. Myers, SEMI president and chief executive officer, while bookings weakened in Q1 FY 08, overall industry billings remained at levels higher than the end of last year, and some regions, specifically North America, Korea, and China, posted strong quarter-over-quarter growth in spite of the conservative capital environment. PCB Industry Results for May B annockburn, Ill. – IPC released the May findings from its monthly North American PCB Statistical Program. Rigid PCB shipments were up 5.7 percent and bookings were down 4.1 percent from May 2007. Rigid PCB shipments year-to-date were up 6.4 percent and bookings were up 9.4 percent. Compared to April, rigid PCB shipments were down 0.1 percent and rigid bookings were down 5.7 percent. May 2008’s book-to-bill ratio for the North American rigid PCB industry declined to 0.95. Flexible circuit shipments were down 3.5 percent and bookings were down 5 percent compared to May 2007. Flexible circuit shipments year-to-date were up 3.3 percent and bookings were down 12.5 percent. Compared to April, flexible circuit shipments were down 9.3 percent and flex bookings were up 1.1 percent. The book-to-bill ratio for the North American flexible circuit industry increased to 1.01. For rigid PCBs and flexible circuits combined, industry shipments in May were up 5.1 percent from May 2007 and orders booked decreased 4.2 percent from May 2007. Year-to-date, combined industry shipments were up 6.2 percent and bookings were up 7.5 percent. Compared to April, combined industry shipments for May 2008 were down 0.7 percent and bookings were down 5.2 percent. The combined (rigid and flex) industry book-to-bill ratio in May 2008 fell to 0.96.
