FURNITURE Furniture is a support system, literally and figuratively. It’s critical to make sure that furniture is not potentially harmful to IAQ. Furniture has had many changes throughout the years — construction methods and materials, fabrics and uses — but one of the most recent changes is that manufacturers are ensuring that their products emit proper (low or no) levels of chemicals into the space they occupy. More than 50 furniture manufacturers have product lines that have attained GREENGUARD certification. The furniture manufacturers that have GREENGUARD-certified product lines give design professionals the ability to spec the best-looking and most purposeful products, while ensuring that these products are not emitting harmful levels of VOCs. CLEANING PRODUCTS Green recognitions for FrameGuard wood: ® Cleaning products are often used on the assumption that they help to clean the indoor environment, and not under the pretense that they may be releasing potentially harmful chemicals into indoor air. When you are looking for individual cleaning products or a cleaning system for your environment, GREENGUARD certification can allow you to feel confident that the products you select are not adding harmful emissions to the indoor environment. ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT Electronics, including monitors, computers and printers, can emit chemicals and particles into the air, particularly when in use. These chemicals may trigger a range of health issues, including asthma, allergies and other irritating reactions. To aid in improving IAQ, GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) recently expanded its testing to include the previously mentioned electronics. With this certification, consumers now have a way to identify computers and other electronic products that have been subjected to rigorous testing and found to be emitting below the most stringent guidelines.
