Fiberglass Storage Tanks for Wastewater and Water Applications Xerxes wastewater tanks are used as process tanks, dosing tanks, recirculation tanks, collection tanks and holding tanks, all part of a complete wastewater treatment system in such projects as schools, commercial buildings, office complexes and housing developments. As wastewater treatment system designers develop new technologies, Xerxes tanks continue to be part of that evolution. Xerxes tanks are routinely used to collect and store captured rainwater or recycled site water, which is then used for landscape irrigation or greywater plumbing systems. Other common applications include stormwater retention and innovative onsite wastewater treatment. When stormwater runs directly into sewer systems, it can result in either groundwater contamination or overloading of stormwater infrastructure. As part of a stormwater management system, Xerxes’ underground water tank offers a better alternative to retention ponds. With Xerxes tanks being H-20 load rated, designers can make better use of property by locating stormwater tanks in parking lots or parking areas. In addition, the collected stormwater can be used for non-potable uses such as landscape irrigation. Whether the aim is a 20 percent or 30 percent reduction of water use, Xerxes water tanks can be used to collect plumbing greywater that can then be used for non-potable applications, such as toilet or urinal flushing, mechanical systems and custodial uses. It is clear to see that in addition to reliability and proven design capability, a major benefit Xerxes offers green building designers is adaptability. Further, because a Xerxes fiberglass tank is lightweight, it can be easily installed in remote or hard-to-reach locations and in areas with limited excavation room. For more than 30 years, Xerxes Corporation has been designing and manufacturing high-quality, cost-effective fiberglass underground storage tanks for a wide range of petroleum, water, wastewater and chemical applications. Xerxes is dedicated to delivering high-quality fiberglass products that help protect the environment and our valuable water resources. As North America’s leading supplier of underground tanks for petroleum storage, many of the leading gasoline retailers, from very large major oil companies, to truck stop operators and small convenience stores, have come to rely on Xerxes for safe, reliable storage of their fuel supplies. With this track record, owners and specifiers of storage tanks in the broad water and wastewater industries, confidently select Xerxes storage tank products. While collection and storage of rainwater, stormwater or wastewater may not be as environmentally sensitive as gasoline, facility owners and specifiers, nonetheless, demand structurally strong, watertight, corrosion-resistant storage vessels. Since by nature storing water can create a corrosive environment, it is likely that rust can be a major weakness in certain underground water storage systems. Xerxes fiberglass tanks are constructed of materials that are inherently rustproof. Fiberglass tanks offer the best longterm protection against leakage due to both internal and external corrosion. Of added importance is the value placed on the quality built into factory-manufactured, one-piece fiberglass tanks versus multi-piece, field-assembled products made from other materials, or pour-in-place concrete structures built in a time-consuming process while being exposed to varying weather conditions. With six manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Canada, Xerxes and its parent company, ZCL Composites Inc., offer the water and wastewater markets cost-effective delivery throughout North America with a level of product and service reliability that discriminating customers demand. Fiberglass Storage Tanks for Green Building Applications When people think of green building design options, they think of the obvious design elements, such as energy conservation and environmentally friendly materials. Designers often miss the less obvious components that can be just as important, such as the numerous water conservation design options that are increasingly being incorporated in green buildings. These are the areas in which owners 60 ed+c J A N UA R Y 09
