Featured this month: Green Building Insulation: The Environmental Benefits Provided by 1 THIS MONTH’S WEB EXCLUSIVE FEATURES INCLUDE: Opportunities with Brownfields? By Craig Carbrey Green is in the Air By Russ Brown For commercial and institutional buildings, sustainability has become an overarching and highly important project driver. Key attributes associated with high-performance green building — including high energy efficiency, occupant comfort, material durability and increased property values — have led to the adoption of best practices in construction materials and methods. Among those is the use of more efficient insulation systems, air barriers, and seamless monolithic roofing systems. One such system, closed-cell spray polyurethane foam (ccSPF), has been shown to offer improved life-cycle analysis and environmental performance, in addition to superior control of the building enclosure and the indoor environment. 1 With the uncertainty in the real estate market pushing the majority of new development to well-located, infill properties, the development on contaminated land parcels known as brownfields represents a unique opportunity to capture this demand. 2 It is projected that by 2010 there will be nearly 10,000 LEED projects underway across the country. Thus, contractors must seek construction partners and vendors who can help them achieve certification. A temporary climate control company can play an important role in that partnership.
