Pollution Engineering - October 2008 - (Page 33) There’s a New Show Introducing a new event in 2009. Pollution Engineering is gathering experts together to discuss and share information on the newest ideas in remediation. in Town Title Sponsor: Gold Sponsor: Silver Sponsor: Proven Soil, Sediment, and Groundwater Remediation Technologies P ollution Engineering magazine has teamed up with the Georgia Institute of Technology to provide a new platform for cutting edge information on remediation topics. This forum has drawn leaders from academia and the regulatory community, site owners and environmental professionals. The sessions will cover the latest advances in the science of restoring a site to be a healthy environment. The event is called RemTEC09. PLE09084Remt.indd 1 While setting up this event, our discussion group mentioned that they often felt rushed at many such events. There are usually concurrent talks that last 15 to 18 minutes and include the questions and answer time. Then attendees have only five minutes to get to the next talk, find a seat and arrange their papers. So, it was believed that it would be important to people to give each topic more attention and allow it to be thoroughly discussed. Keeping that goal in mind, each time slot will be extended to allow the speaker more time as needed, and audience interaction will be extended. Another comment that was often heard was travel time. Many conferences start on Monday morning, requiring travel on Saturday or Sunday in order to get to the event in time to hear the opening remarks. To avoid this, early registration has been scheduled noon until 6:00 p.m. on Monday Presented by: Poster Session March 2, 2009. This should allow attendees to plan their travel that day; even our guests from the West Coast can get a reasonable morning flight and arrive in time to register and get a full night’s rest before the show. The event will run until Thursday, March 5 at noon, which should also allow plenty of time to catch transportation out of town that day and avoid a late-night flight or an additional overnight stay. Who should attend the 8/14/08 conference? 10:01:37 AM What to expect Academic and industry experts will be giving presentations and answering questions. Poster sessions will be available for additional information sharing. Attendees will have plenty of opportunities to share problems they have encountered on jobs. Networking opportunities will be available through many avenues including the sessions, hallway discussions, poster presentations, hospitalities, exhibition hall or lunch meetings. Any professional with an interest in property remediation or restoration should find something at the conference that will enhance personal knowledge and education. This would include people that own property that is either contaminated or has a potential to become contaminated, government officials and community regulatory leaders that have any involvement in contaminated sites, or professionals involved in developing cleanup activities. Students and academic leaders will find a ton of information as well as opportunities to interact with industry. Consulting engineers who have responsibility for designing or conducting cleanup projects will have plenty of involvement and opportunity. Best of all, those that sign up before Dec. 12 will only pay $695 to register. 33 OCTOBER2008 www.pollutionengineering.com http://www.pollutionengineering.com
