RealTime - Fall 2008 - (Page 4) VIEW When The Economy Gets Tough, Intermec Remains Strong THERE’S NO QUESTION THAT THE ECONOMIC LANDSCAPE IS CHALLENGING AT the moment. Whether you call it a recession, a downturn, or a slump, companies worldwide are feeling the impact. Many companies see this trying time as the ideal opportunity to maximize efficiencies and streamline operations. Organizations are realizing that they need to do more with fewer people and tighter budgets and are turning to technology—and increasingly mobile technology—as a tool for change. Mobile computing has become invaluable for companies seeking to transform their supply chain operations. Royal Mail (which you can read about in the “News” section of this issue) is a perfect case in point. Royal Mail, the leading provider of mail and parcel delivery services in the United Kingdom, has begun deployment of 25,000 Intermec CN3 mobile computers to improve the company’s efficiency and customer service while cutting operational costs. The CN3 handhelds are replacing its paper-based system for collecting signatures for the majority of its tracked products. In an increasingly tough market, Royal Mail sees the CN3 as a competitive advantage. The CN3 is the first Intermec mobile computer to feature Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1—the first true enterprise operating system for mobile computers. Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 empowers mobile workers to have broader, more secure access to corporate resources than ever before. Additionally, it includes enterprise features like mobile virtual private networks, full over-the-air provisioning for quick and convenient implementation of new devices, and easier certificate enrollment for more robust certificate standards. Also in this issue of RealTime is the introduction of the CK3—the newest member of the Intermec family of rugged mobile computers designed specifically to help companies maximize their operational performance. It, too, features Windows Mobile 6.1 as well as a broad range of data collection and communication features, enabling it to adapt to a variety of in-premise applications. The CK3 offers the latest generation of Intermec imaging technology for fast scanning of virtually any bar code and exceptional flexibility in scanning range. The innovations you’ll read about in this issue are a few examples of how Intermec continues to develop the industry’s most innovative product solutions. Whether it’s surviving economic downturns or tough competitive environments, our customers and partners look to Intermec to provide the best solutions for streamlining operations and improving productivity of mobile workers.
