RealTime - Spring 2008 - (Page 12) NEWS >> RFID Journal Names Intermec IP30 ‘‘Best in Show’’ Finalist THE INTERMEC IP30 was selected as a finalist for the coveted RFID Journal “Best in Show” award by RFID Journal, the world’s leading media and events company covering RFID technology. The award recognizes the technology provider exhibiting the best new RFID product of the year. The Intermec IP30 add-on RFID reader is a cost-effective, compact, FCC and ETSI certified solution for adding mobile RFID read/write capability to the latest generation of Intermec mobile computers, including the CN3 and the CK61. The IP30 is now shipping in both FCC and ETSI configurations. “We had more than 100 submissions this year for the RFID Journal Awards,” said Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. “I’m pleased that we are able to showcase innovative products like the Intermec IP30, which are helping to make deployments easier and more successful.” The five judges for the awards this year are Harold Boeck, a professor at the Universite de Sherbrooke; Bill Hardgrave, director of the University of Arkansas’ RFID Research Center; Vice Admiral Gordon S. Holder of the U.S. Navy (Retired) and a principal at Booz Allen Hamilton; Fred Riggins, an assistant professor at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management; and Mark Roberti, founder and editor of RFID Journal. ❙ >> Intermec Names Two Vice Presidents INTERMEC, INC. has appointed Raymond Cronin as vice president and general manager, RFID, and Dennis Faerber as senior vice president of global supply chain operations. Both executives will report to Intermec President and Chief Executive Officer Patrick Byrne. Raymond Cronin Cronin is a seasoned executive with significant senior level technology experience in the areas of corporate strategy and the commercialization of new technologies. His corporate background encompasses a range of disciplines, including operations, product management, sales, customer service and support. Cronin was most recently at Azimuth Systems, Inc., where as founding chief executive officer and member of their board of directors, he led the company from concept to being one of the market leaders in the wireless LAN test equipment industry. During the last nine months he held the position of chief strategy officer while transitioning the CEO position to his successor. Before Azimuth Systems, Cronin served in various senior management roles with several technology and semiconductor companies. “Our RFID business is important to the long-term growth of the company,” Byrne said. “Ray’s proven track record of bringing new technologies to market along with Intermec’s very strong intellectual property portfolio in RFID further position the company for rapid technology commercialization.” Cronin is an electrical engineering graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute and earned his Master’s in Business Administration from Harvard University. Dennis Faerber Faerber brings operational experience to the Intermec organization, particularly in the areas of supply chain transformation, process development, technical operations, manufacturing systems, quality operations, materials management and engineering. Faerber joins Intermec from Applied Materials, where he held the position of corporate vice president of global supply chain operations. Before Applied Materials, he served as KLA-Tencor’s group vice president and chief quality officer, responsible for developing and implementing the company’s quality strategy. Faerber has also held senior management positions at Advanced Energy, Agilent Technologies and Hewlett-Packard. “Dennis has a proven track record of operational excellence and supply chain transformation,” Byrne said. “This is a core strategy of Intermec going forward and we are delighted to have a leader of Dennis’ experience and capabilities join Intermec at this time.” ❙ 12 realtime / 2008
