Paresa previously served as general manager for San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino before assuming his current position in 2000. “The tribe’s culture, sovereignty and self-governance is at the core of its essence,” Paresa said.“Should any of that go, so goes the tribe. “It terms of its economic growth and self-governance, San Manuel has accomplished in a 20-year span what it takes most counties and municipalities 50 to 100 years to do.” P ■ PETER WATTS Executive Director, Department of Planning and Development atts oversees real estate development, public works and property management. Watts’ early years were split between the United Kingdom and the United States. He joined the U.S. Navy, studying aviation structures. He later served in the West Pacific and participated in the evacuation of war-torn Vietnam. Watts’ background in architectural and project and construction management makes him a key member of the tribe’s economic development team and its vision for economic diversification. “The tribe will not do a local project that does not benefit the San Bernardino community,” he said.“Local governments are very fortunate to have a neighbor like San Manuel.” W ■ JACOB L. COIN Executive Director, Office of Public Affairs oin works directly with the San Manuel Business Committee and the tribal chairman in developing communications strategies and messages about tribal governance. He also serves as a tribal advocate on federal and state issues, working in support of governmental specialists and lobbyists in Washington, D.C. and Sacramento, Calif. Coin, who joined San Manuel in 2004, was a founder of the Arizona Indian Gaming Association and executive director of the National Indian Gaming Association and California Nations Indian Gaming Association. “It has been both an honor and privilege to serve as an advocate for sovereignty and self-reliance on behalf of San Manuel and all Native American,” said Coin, a member of the Hopi Tribe of Arizona.
