NTC to ‘Train the Troops’ National Training Center (NTC), Las Vegas, announced a “Train the Troops” program to train recently discharged military service personnel for careers in the low-voltage industry. Charles Aulner, CEO of NTC, explained the inception of the program: “NTC is dedicated to providing the lowvoltage industry with the very best in training and is committed to empowering individuals and companies to succeed. Trade Show News The 2008 World Safety Conference & Exposition (WSC&E), the annual conference of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), travels to Las Vegas this year from June 2 to 5. The event will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The WSC&E is a chance to learn from leading authorities, gain deeper understanding of codes, network with peers, get up-to-date knowledge on current industry topics and earn valuable CEUs and AIA LUs. Professionals concerned with saving lives and property and anyone who faces challenges in the areas of fire and life safety, electrical, security, building design and management, fire service, and loss control and risk management should attend. More than 5,000 safety professionals from around the world are expected to attend the 2008 WSC&E, which includes more than 150 education sessions in 11 tracks, a series of one- and two-day pre-conference seminars, and a three-day exposition highlighting cutting-edge products from more than 300 exhibitors. Conference highlights include opening remarks by NFPA president James Shannon at the general session on Monday, June 2, followed by a Penn & Teller performance. The award-winning duo has been together since 1975, with an award winning theater show that has been a long-running hit on and off Broadway. Industry leaders will also be awarded for achievements in fire safety education, research, development of codes and distinguished service. This does not provide them with much time to find work in the civilian sector. We wanted to give back to the U.S. troops that risk their lives in order to protect the American way of life. I thought, what better way to give back to our troops than do what we are good at, and give the very best low-voltage training to the U.S. troops; at the same time provide the industry with well-trained and qualified individuals. We recognized a need on both sides for this program.” NTC will conduct training for this program at no charge to the service members. In total, NTC is contributing $294,000 in training and materials to “Train the Troops.” The program will be offered twice during the 2008 calendar year, with 100 service members participating.
