Snack Food & Wholesale Bakery - September 2008 - (Page 32) Industry News Pioneer Belshaw Passes Away pioneer in the baking industry, Thomas Belshaw passed away peacefully on July 31 with his family by his side. He was 88 years old. According to his family, Belshaw lived a long and productive life and was best known for his mechanical genius and financial acumen. His family says he used those abilities to operate a successful business and to mentor and inspire others. He was born in Everett, Wash., on March 24, 1920, to Thomas and Bessie Belshaw, and moved to Seattle at the age of four, settling in Rainier Valley. He married Yvonne DeWitt in 1941 and moved to West Seattle where they have lived for the past 67 years. In the 1950s, Belshaw took over the management of Belshaw Brothers Inc., the family business founded by his father and uncle. Margaret LeCrone Passes Away Margaret K. LeCrone of Jackson, Mich., passed away on Aug. 15. She was actively involved with her husband, Dale, in the family business, LeMatic Inc. She also was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Gourmet Club, the Welcome Wagon, the Newcomers and the Country Club of Jackson. She is survived by her husband, Dale S. LeCrone, of 48 years, and sons Dale (Irene) LeCrone and Alan (Shelley) LeCrone of Jackson, Mich. She also is survived by two sisters, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. AHB Buys Cemac Foods “Have your cake and eat it, too” is still in the cards for Cemac Foods Corp., a Philadelphia-based cheesecake maker already facing closure. In July, AHB Foods Co. purchased Cemac Foods. AHB is a national manufacturer and distributor of high-end artisan breads and dessert specialties based in Cherry Hill, N.J. Under the agreement, AHB will move its Classic Cake Co. subsidiary from Cherry Hill to Philadelphia, add 55 jobs and bolster production at this site to include around-the-clock operation. “We are expanding dramatically here, says Peter Woodruff, Cemac’s gen” eral manager. “I’m thrilled. I don’t need to tell you that the economy has been rough — the cost of oil, the cost of wheat. This is the best possible scenario. It’s great for the employees.
