Sustainable Facility - February 2009 - (Page 22) spotlight NCFI POLYURETHANE The Most Innovative Sustainable Building Product You’ll Never See. If you are designing and building sustainable buildings you are creating the very future of the way we live and work. If that future is a sustainable one the only materials you are considering are ones that last the life of the building, reduce energy use, and are safe and healthy. InsulStar high performance spray foam insulation is the best place to begin. InsulStar high performance spray foam insulation by NCFI is an innovative sustainable building product that controls moisture and air infiltration while providing substantial energy savings and a new level of comfort. It is formulated from renewable agricultural resources, and has been awarded the EPA’s Ozone Protection Award and is an ENERGY STAR partner. pollen and other airborne pollutants for a more comfortable environment and energy savings. InsulStar is called “high-performance insulation” because it performs better than traditional insulation. David Gottfried, a cofounder of the U.S. Green Building Council and World Green Buildign Council, used it in his own home in Oakland—California’s first deep green remodel. He called InsulStar “super insulation.” By designing and building a highly energyefficient, low-maintenance building, the reduction in energy demands for heating and cooling will lower demand on utility companies for the life of building. That means it dramatically lowers the building owners’ energy costs. NCFI NCFI is a national leader in foam research and development. Started in 1964 by research chemist, Dr. H. W. Bradley and Charlotte-based Barnhardt Manufacturing Company, NCFI Polyurethanes quickly became a leader in the manufacturing of high-performance spray foam for use in residential, commercial, agricultural, underground construction and roofing industries. Add up the benefits and it’s easy to see why InsulStar by NCFI is the ideal high-performance insulation you’ve been looking for. Professional architects, builders, and building owners love InsulStar for many reasons, but what they all agree on is that “Love Starts on the Inside.” Choose InsulStar high-performance spray foam insulation. The liquid reacts, expands, and cures in-place, forming a fully adhered, seamless insulating and airblocking membrane. The closed-cell structure of InsulStar blocks air movement and has a low permeance, which controls moisture vapor movement, eliminating the need for an additional vapor barrier. When moisture vapor is controlled, condensation will not occur, thus eliminating the water to support mold growth. Additionally, InsulStar is blended with an anti-microbial to inhibit mold, mildew and bacterial growth. MCKINSEY REPORT InsulStar offers amazing returns for the building owner by saving up to 40 percent on energy costs. A recent McKinsey Global Institute report finds the most effective energy efficiency measure is using better insulation in homes and buildings. InsulStar is formulated for just that reason. It stops air leakage into and out of the building, reduces noise, and blocks dust, 22 S U S TA I N A B L E F A C I L I T Y F E B R UARY 200 9 http://www.ncfi.com
