BASARA Director Joe Basara has directed and provided consulting in casino operations for some of the world’s premiere gaming resorts. He is a specialist in day-today operations as well as long range planning and strategy. He is skilled in casino floor design, product selection and placement, performance analysis, financial projections, capital planning, budget creation and management and recruitment. Serving in key management positions, Basara has implemented operation models that have consistently and dramatically improved financial performance and customer service at some of the world’s largest and most prestigious gaming resorts. He has managed the planning and development of the gaming floor layout to be both attractive to the customer while generating a higher level of revenue. Basara’s innovations have improved the financial performance of both slots and table games. Basara also is highly skilled in marketing operations and strategy. And he has proven adept at managing and motivating resort personnel in all departments. Prior to joining WhiteSand, Basara was a partner in the marketing consulting practice of KPMG Consulting and former CEO of a manufacturing company. Nickerson was involved in the integration and migration of human resource, financial and gaming systems following the acquisition of gaming properties, making the transition as smooth as possible. He has conducted many operational and information technology assessments and numerous market demand studies. Nickerson has broad technical, business and industry knowledge in finance, human resources, payroll, marketing, customer relationship management, gaming and communications. He also is experienced in project management, package evaluation, Internet solutions, call center design and planning, system implementation, data conversion and integration, database design, business process and procedures and workflow analysis. ■ E. ALAN MERCER Senior project manager Al Mercer has some 20 years of gaming and IT experience. His operational skills include marketing analysis and reporting, budgeting and forecasting, strategic and tactical planning, staffing, slot machine profitability and placement and property expansion and capital improvements. His technical and property management roles include solution assessment and acquisition for table rating, player tracking and CRM packages. He has provided technology changes for mainframe upgrades, disaster recovery and high availability and hardware replacement for card encoding equipment, ATM/TRM/Cash Systems and day-to-day operational IT requirements. Mercer’s expertise in IT and gaming, combined with his project management abilities, allowed him to strategically assist more than 30 properties through openings and major expansions. He played a prominent role in the openings of Borgata, Venetian, Mohegan Sun, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Morongo, Caesars and Atlantis. Mercer has handled project management of gaming related systems, business process engineering and regulatory compliance. The success of many recent casino openings hinged on his ability to demonstrate to state regulatory agencies sound accounting and audit compliance of casino revenue. Partners in Progress ■ JAMES NICKERSON Director Jim Nickerson has some 20 years of experience in the gaming and hospitality industry, serving as an IT executive for such premiere gaming operations as Morongo Casino Resort and Spa, Sydney Harbour Casino and Showboat Inc. He has worked with KPMG Consulting and PricewaterhouseCoopers and held management positions with Harrah’s Entertainment, Showboat Atlantic City and National Freight Inc.
