Our ﬂeet, too, demonstrates our commitment to excellence. Emirates’ ﬂeet of 116 aircraft is one of the youngest in the skies, with an average age of 67 months. Flying to over 100 destinations in 62 countries across six continents, this world-class ﬂeet includes 10 freighters (four Boeing 747-400Fs, three Boeing 747-400ERFs and three Airbus A310Fs). During the ﬁnancial year 2007-08, Emirates SkyCargo recorded a growth of 10.9 per cent across its network. A notable feat achieved by carrying 1.3 million tonnes of cargo, surpassing the previous year’s record of 1.2 million tonnes of cargo. The division’s revenue of AED6.4 billion ($1.8 billion) was 20 per cent higher than the previous year’s revenue of AED5.4 billion ($1.5 billion). These earnings contributed 19 per cent to the airline’s transport revenue, one of the highest contributions of any airline with a similar ﬂeet makeup in the world. In 2008, Emirates SkyCargo moved into its new 1.2-million-tonne-capacity-a-year hub at Dubai International Airport. The AED1.2 billion ($327 million) terminal, which has been built on a 43,600-square-metre site, incorporates a mix of automation and ﬂexibility, designed to help the hub expedite shipment process cycle times while drastically minimising warehouse discrepancies. Emirates SkyCargo has a dedicated team based at the Cargo Mega Terminal which is comprehensively trained in the cargo handling needs of a wide range of products. Authorities including Dubai Customs, the Department of Civil Aviation and the UAE Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries are conveniently located in the same building, allowing for speedy export acceptance and import delivery. Over the next few years, the airline will welcome 180 aircraft to its ﬂeet. The total value of aircraft now on its order books is over $58 billion at list prices.
