Located along the Mississippi, the park offers 18 miles of hiking trails, overnight camping, the historic original Crow Wing town site, and canoeing along the scenic river. Cuyuna Country State Recreational Area near Crosby is the state’s newest recreational area but is quickly becoming a favorite of those who use it. Abandoned mine pits filled with crystal-clear spring water have resulted in 15 mine lakes and six natural lakes, all of which have excellent fishing (including trout) and scuba diving opportunities. In fact, they’re consistently rated as one of the top fresh-water diving destinations because of the diving diversity available. A new paved bike trail and many miles of mountain biking trails weave their way through lakes, which have 25 miles of undeveloped shoreline. It’s an excellent area for bird watching as well.
