Brainerd Lakes 2008 Relocation Guide - (Page 32) HEALTHCARE Here When You Need Us Healthcare providers keep pace with the Lakes Area Preparing to meet the needs of a changing population, healthcare providers in the Brainerd Lakes Area are expanding their services and facilities to offer state-of-theart treatment right here at home. A good example is Lakewood Health System, which opened its new three-level hospital and clinic east of Staples in December 2006, and is already contemplating expansion. “We are glad we focused on flexibility for future growth in our design,” states Tim Rice, president of Lakewood Health System. “We’ve seen our occupancy double since we opened.” In June 2007, the facility was named to the Minnesota Physician’s Health Care Architecture Honor Roll. Before it even opened, Lakewood had implemented electronic medical records, an electronic clinical information system, and digital radiology. Lakewood is an independent, integrated health system comprised of a 25-bed critical access hospital, a 100-bed center for long-term senior care, a 40-apartment senior living facility, a 25-apartment assisted living facility, and five primary care clinics in Staples, Motley, Pillager, Eagle Bend, and Browerville. Among the many services they offer are home care and Living in the Brainerd Lakes Area keeps you healthy, happy—and involved. hospice, reproductive and fertility treatments, water birthing, and sleep study programs. Also growing to meet the Lakes Area’s need for expert healthcare is Cuyuna Regional Medical Center (CRMC). A thriving, highly respected regional medical campus, CRMC offers care in a variety of specialties. The campus is also home to the Minnesota Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIMIS), Central Lakes Medical Clinic, Crosby Eye Clinic, and the Minnesota Heart Institute-Crosby. CRMC recently opened a new inpatient care area which includes intensive care, birthing, and general medical care. All patient suites are private and include amenities such as small refrigerators, locking cabinets to secure personal items, and pull-out couches so that family can spend the night. “We believe that families are an important part of healing,” said CEO Tom Reek. “We want to create an environment that welcomes them to be a part of their loved ones’ care.” Phase two of construction will include remodeling of existing areas to build new family lounges, a cafe, and new ambulatory services area. Construction is expected to be complete in spring 2008. CONTINUED ON PAGE 34 32 Brainerd Lakes Area Business & Relocation Guide
