Brainerd Lakes 2008 Relocation Guide - (Page 8) COMMUNITIES Complementary Communities The Lakes Area is made up of one-of-a-kind places Like a patchwork quilt, the Brainerd Lakes Area is comprised of several independent yet interrelated communities. And they all offer their own special version of “Minnesota Nice” through their unique histories and personalities. You’ll see. Amidst this variety, we’re sure you’ll find what you’re looking for in lifestyle and living accommodations. You can live in a serene, pine-scented forest and work in a bustling town center, or enjoy a day of shopping and dining, an evening of live theater, and, minutes later, be back at home on a peaceful lakeshore. The neighboring cities of Brainerd and Baxter form the hub of this vibrant area. They, in turn, are connected to our many smaller, outlying communities. Throughout the region, you have easy access to the goods and services of the larger cities. This arrangement gives the Lakes Area a unique advantage—rural serenity, city amenities. It’s the best of both worlds. The week-long Crosslake Days celebration includes the crowning of a king and queen, a car show, chili cookoff, and much more! BAXTER AND BRAINERD The cities of Baxter and Brainerd offer a special vitality amid trademark northwoods surroundings. The combined population of these adjacent communities is 21,068. Brainerd’s growing downtown is picturesque, with unique shops, restaurants, and private and government offices. Baxter offers the beginning of the Paul Bunyan Trail and the 500acre Northland Arboretum, along with familiar stores and eating establishments. Both communities have thriving industrial and commercial areas. The regional airport is located east of Brainerd. CROSSLAKE Crosslake, home to 2,039 people, is truly a northwoods village. It’s situated on the Whitefish Chain with 14 interconnected, island-studded lakes. Unique shops, great golfing, and delicious food are plentiful in this tourism-based community.
