Explore local, state and federal parks to reconnect with Mother Nature. CROW WIN G STATE PARK , BRAINERD Stay clear waters below the dam. Hiking trails, a public beach, boat launch and campground are located in the recreational area. Mille Lacs Kathio State Park Mille Lacs Kathio State Park has so much to offer and discover. In the warmer months, enjoy camping, swimming and taking in the beautiful scenery which surrounds you. In the winter, enjoy cross-country skiing on trails described as “the best in Minnesota” or snowshoe on a seven mile trail that will lead you to destinations that you can not get to in any other fashion. Pillsbury State Forest The oldest and one of the most scenic state forests in Minnesota, Pillsbury Forest, is a treasure for outdoor lovers. The area offers horseback riding, hiking and mountain bike trails that wind through the forest and past historic sites as well as hiking trails through various of glacier-built rolling hills, topography YA G O T TA State Parks and Forests Crow Wing State Park Eight miles south of Brainerd and just next door to the Brainerd Lakes Area Welcome Center is beautiful Crow Wing State Park. Located along the Mississippi River, the park offers 18 miles of hiking trails, overnight camping and canoeing along the scenic river. Cuyuna State Recreational Area The Cuyuna State Recreational Area is located near Crosby and is one of the state’s newest recreational areas but is quickly becoming a favorite. Abandoned mine pits filled with crystal-clear spring water have resulted in 15 mine lakes and six natural lakes. In fact, they’re consistently rated as one of the top fresh-water diving destinations because of the diving diversity that is available. A new paved bike trail and many miles of mountain biking trails weave their way through lakes which have 25 miles of undeveloped shoreline. This breathtakingly beautiful area is ideal for bird watching as well. Eat Federal Parks and Forests Crosslake Recreation Area, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Uniquely located within walking distance of shops, restaurants, trails and lodging in Crosslake, this recreational area features a boat launch, public beach, interpretive programs and camping. A dam is located here that controls the water level, making channels between the lakes and forming the Whitefish Chain of Lakes. This 13,660-acre body of water, with 119 miles of shoreline, provides dozens of interesting bays for pleasure boating and fishing. Gull Lake Recreational Area, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers You can drive through a single lane road over the small dam that controls the waters on the Gull Lake Chain. Park your car next to the picnic and playground area to fish off the shore or watch the fish swimming in the YA G O T TA Play YA G O T TA ravines and hidden lakes. Rated as one of the best areas to view fall colors in Minnesota, visit the scenic overlook on Highway 1 north of Pillager and enjoy a panoramic view to the east.
