Because of the customer demand, production capacity needed to increase as well. So in 2007, Andersen purchased lots in the Pequot Lakes Business Industrial Park and moved production, finishing, and shipping all under one roof into a new 30,000 square feet facility. This gave Lonesome Cottage the ability to produce and ship out of the same building allowing for efficiencies. Today in 2008, Lonesome Cottage has tripled sales due to the expansion of both retail and wholesale customers across the U.S. and Canada and employs over 50 lakes area residents. Paul Cibuzar does not lead a leisurely life. As the owner of an operations research consulting firm, his work regularly takes him across the nation and around the world. Yet his headquarters, and his home, are on the shores of Gull Lake in Nisswa— by choice. For two years, following his retirement from the Marine Corps, he worked in Washington, D.C. Eventually the high-pressure lifestyle took its toll. “I got tired of watching other people’s bumpers,” he says. On Friday afternoons, it took two hours to get out of the parking lot and through the first traffic light. Weekend sailing required a two-hour drive in heavy traffic to Chesapeake Bay, where it cost a small fortune to keep a boat. “Out there, you have to stand in line for everything,” Cibuzar explains. So in 1994, he decided to optimize his quality of life and come back to Brainerd.“My commute now is about thirty seconds,” he says. His sailboat and pontoon are moored at his dock. Yes, he still travels extensively since he consults with the likes of the Marine Corps, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Defense. His frequent travel is handled efficiently by the Brainerd and Minneapolis/St. Paul airports. But on days when he’s working at home, he has breakfast with his wife and takes out the rowboat or cross-country skis for exercise. “I can work from the pontoon if I want,” he laughs. “It’s a whole different lifestyle.” Having traveled the world, he adds, “I love Hawaii and I love northern Norway. If you can’t live in both places, you live in Minnesota. That’s the truth.” BrainerdSavings.com 218.829.5183 Brainerd • Baxter explorebrainerdlakes.com 23 http://www.brainerdsavings.com http://www.bladc.org http://www.brainerdsavings.com http://www.explorebrainerdlakes.com/ http://www.explorebrainerdlakes.com/
