Lakewood Reflections is Lakewood Health System’s Senior Behavioral Health Program and offers both an inpatient and outpatient setting for seniors suffering from psychiatric, emotional or behavioral disorders. Lakewood Reflections is located in Lakewood Health System’s previous hospital/clinic location, otherwise known as the Senior Campus. “We’ve updated and renovated most of the Senior Campus to house the Care Center, Memory Care Unit and Lakewood Reflections. In March, the Memory Care Unit reopened with a completely remodeled home-like atmosphere, which closely matches Lakewood Reflections’ theme and décor.” said Maggie Koehler, Public Relations Coordinator. Amongst all of the changes and improvements, Lakewood was able to slow down in August and receive a national award for outstanding leadership named the Top Leadership Team Award by HealthLeaders Media. Aitkin focused on providing services for patients a little closer to home with the spring 2008 opening of a new outpatient facility adjacent to its medical clinic and pharmacy in Garrison. Now Garrison-area patients can be served with physical therapy services, diabetes education and nutrition services and specialized nursing for wound, ostomy, continence, and foot care needs. In August 2008, Riverwood became one of only three hospitals in rural Minnesota to become certified as a Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) Hospital. Meeting strict standards for all types of emergency medical care, the CALS Hospital designation merges with the recent Level III Trauma Center certification to make Riverwood the only rural hospital in Minnesota to have both honors. Riverwood has made state-of-the-art trauma care a priority and is also a Level 1 Heart Attack Hospital, collaborating with the Minneapolis Heart Institute and AbbottNorthwestern Hospital. “The biggest strength of CALS is the way it promotes teamwork with nurses and physicians training together,” explains Dr. James Harris, who heads Riverwood’s Emergency Services. “We have a great healthcare team at Riverwood that includes our administrative, nursing, lab and radiology staff as well as all the care providers. It took a huge commitment from the entire team to get this award, and every day this team’s commitment ensures quality care for our patients.” Regardless of when and where accidents happen, ambulance service is nearby. North Memorial Ambulance’s helicopter air ambulance can fly patients from the scene to the closets level-one trauma center or heat center tin a matter of minutes.
