It’s situated on the Whitefish Chain with 14 interconnected, island-studded lakes. Unique shops, great golfing, and delicious food are plentiful in this tourism-based community. A biking / walking trail extends throughout the commercial district and links to a trail along the shoulder of County Road 16, which connects to the Paul Bunyan Trail. Continuing north the neighboring community of Manhattan Beach on Big Trout Lake, the north central lake of the Whitefish Chain of Lakes, is just two square miles in size with a year round population of about 60 that jumps to more than 100 when seasonal cabin owners and guests return for the summer. Crosby, Ironton, and Deerwood have a total population of more than 3,400. Residents enjoy the nearby Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area where they scuba dive, canoe, and fish for trout in the clear mine-pit lakes, or bike and hike on the rugged terrain. Strong industries include manufacturing and healthcare. The Hallett Community Center fulfills health club and recreational needs, while the Cuyuna Lakes State Trail system will one day connect to Aitkin, Brainerd, and the Paul Bunyan Trail. LAKE SHORE Lake Shore encompasses 18 square miles and many, many miles of prime shoreline. The City of Lake Shore is home to a large portion of the Gull Chain, one of the premier chains of lakes in Minnesota. In addition, the western portion of the city is quite rural, with rolling fields and wooded areas, perfect for hobby farms. Lake Shore offers a wide variety of restaurants, many of which you can get to by simply boating up to their docks. LITTLE FALLS EAST GULL LAKE East Gull Lake (population 1,020) is nestled along the southeastern shore of Gull Lake. The town is home to some of the Lakes Area’s premier recreational amenities, along with a small seasonal airport. Overflowing with history and tradition, Little Falls (population 8,427) is a place where young and old alike immerse themselves in the many attractions and events that speak of life along the banks of the mighty Mississippi. CUYUNA RANGE Crosby, Ironton, and Deerwood On the Cuyuna Iron Range, 14 miles northeast of Brainerd, the towns of MILLE LACS LAKE AREA EMILY AND FIFTY LAKES Pine and hard wood forests surround the cities of Emily and Fifty Lakes (population 914) offering recreational opportunities of golf, lakeside cabins, boating and unique stores in the peaceful setting. With more than 100 miles of shoreline, Mille Lacs Lake is the area’s largest lake. Garrison, on the north shore, has a population of 228.
