This history will be celebrated with inclusion of antique and classic boats at the annual Minneapolis Boat Show. The Show will be held January 23-27 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event is a time to forget about the winter snows and cold temperatures and dream of warm, sunny days on the water. Nestled among the brand new boats will be a display of six antique and classic boats. The Bob Speltz Land-O-Lakes chapter of the Antique & Classic Boat Society (BSLOL) volunteer members are bringing boats to the show. This year the focus of the vintage boat display will be before and after. Two sets of boats, one each “before” and one each “after” will be shown. The “before” boats will show what a boat looks like after sitting in the farmer’s field for a couple of decades. Right next to them will be boats that have been restored, the “after” results. In the unique display of boats that harken back to a more gentile time will be: • 1941 Chris-Craft Deluxe Runabout barrelback 17' before • 1941 Chris-Craft Deluxe Runabout barrelback 17' after • 1955 Thompson Thomboy Runabout 14' before • 1955 Thompson Thomboy Runabout 14' before • 1955 Higgins Convertible Utility 23' • 2000 Outerbanks Dory Rowing Skiff 16' The Outerbanks Dory Rowing Skiff was made by students at the Northhouse Folk School at Grand Marais, Minnesota. It has been donated to the Antique & Classic Boat Society and it will be raffled off during the show. Proceeds will fund educational activities of the group. In addition to the classic boats a display of vintage water skis and aqua planes will be included. Water skiing was invented in Minnesota in 1922 and the display will celebrate this achievement.
