RiverMarinas has a long-term agreement to manage the marina at Harbor Village, a residential community being developed to create a true nautical lifestyle for boaters to experience the benefits of boating on the Mississippi River and the many amenities planned for Harbor Village. As a recreational resource, the Mississippi River offers many boating activities including fishing, cruising, yachting, sailing, canoeing, kayaking and sail boarding in a beautiful environment. As a part of the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, Mississippi River boaters enjoy the pleasure of observing and photographing the many species of riverine habitat and migratory waterfowl along with the river bluffs, backwater hideaways and numerous sandy beaches. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources states in its 2003 Recreational Boating Study, that “the Mississippi River is by all measures, a major boating resource, especially the size and quality of the river resource” in comparison to the diminishing quality of the St. Croix River boating experience. In fact, 95 percent of Mississippi River boaters rate their overall boating experience as satisfying. Due to the high preponderance of Mississippi River boaters utilizing large boats and marina services, river boaters welcome RiverMarinas to Harbor Village. Numerous entities and activities such as architectural, engineering, site planning, dock design, permitting and marketing have been ongoing for some time. The new slip replacement and expansion, with a stateof-the-art wet dockage system, will accommodate 24foot boats to 60-foot yachts. The new restaurant-loungebanquet concept, “Popinjay’s”, designed as a destination for food, drink and entertainment, will become an integral part of the Harbor Village community. Ground breaking on the residential development of Harbor Village is planned for summer of 2008.
